French Alpine Senior Does

We were extremely fortunate to purchase a large number of does from Cathy and the Roeburn herd in 2021 and 2022. We have listed these does along with our homebred french alpines on this page.

We absolutely can’t get enough of Sari. Sari is an ultra balanced doe with a fabulous, globular shaped mammary system and beautifully extended fore udder. She has a lovely dairy shape and a flat, wide rump. What makes Sari even more exciting is that she is a full sibling (although a year younger) to our influential former herdsire Roeburn’s KVZ Soren. Soren is the sire of Bellhurst Quinn and we see a lot of similar in type between Quinn and Sari. Sari had a difficult time learning what it meant to be a show goat, but still has managed to bring home some rosettes and one championship leg.

2023 was Sari’s best year yet. Despite only having a single buck kid Sari matured tremendously and continued to maintain her strengths in general appearance and mammary system. We were thrilled when Sari won GCH and BOB in July over a very competitive Alpine class. We have hopes of a doe kid from Sari next spring.

“Millie” is certainly the grand matriach of the herd. She is a stunning doe in her own right who appraised EX 92 as a seven year old doe! What really makes Millie stand out to me is the consistency in the strength of her offspring - Millie has 6 daughers with an average appraisal score just over 88, 3 grand daughters with the same average and a great granddaughter with a score of 88. She has numerous offspring with milk stars and show wins of their own. We feel so fortunate to welcome Millie to our herd. She is kidding this spring as a 10 year old and we will let her health determine if she is bred in the future or if she will milk through until she retires. In our barn we proudly own her daughters EX92 Amalie, EX90 Magritte, V87 Manet and numerous grand and great grand daughters. After kidding with triplets again at age 11, we have decided to retire Millie. This grand girl has more than earned a permanent place in the barn.

Bathsheba is another special aged doe that we had the opportunity to purchase from the Roeburn herd. Like Millie, Bathsheba has proven herself through her offspring who reside in herds around the country - including ours until this fall when Elezar left for a new home. She is a third generation EX92 doe.

Amalie is a doe that we cannot take our eyes off of. She truly excels in general appearance, while she initially catches your eye for being long and level but closer inspection reveals an extremely correct front end assembly as well as correct feet and legs and an extremely wide rump. Amalie has a BIS win even in limited showing and her appraisal score of EX92 this year as a 6 year old speaks for itself. Amalie has one daughter who is a finished champion (Roeburn’s KVZ Amity). Amalie freshed with a single doe kid in 2023, Victoria who promises to have the same immense stature and width as her dam. While we were hoping for multiples Amalie made sure to make her single count!

Layla is easily confused with the stunning Amalie which should tell you just how much we love the general appearance of this doe. Layla is has beautiful and upstanding in her stature with a long, elegant neck. Layla quickly learned that being in the show string has it’s perks and her performance never disappointed. She was consistently at the top of her class, sometimes flipping with her herdmate Sari. Layla placed 1xGCH and BIS and 3x RCH, including 2xRCH to a pending finished champion at the Erie County fair which means we expect Layla to have earned two champion legs. Layla is a hard worker in the milk room, usually one of the top three does on our monthly milk test. Her daughter Lola, sired by Roeburn’s Whimsey Baron has been 2xGCH and was the 3rd place intermediate kid at the national show.

Wins:

Magritte is littermate sister to our Manet and a full genetic sister to Amalie. It’s no wonder that so many of these sisters were retained in the small Roeburn herd. Magritte has incredible length of body and level topline. She is demonstrated persistent milk production in the short time we have had her in milk.

2023 6 year old VEEV89 excellent in rump

We purchased Manet as a kid because we had a reservation on her phenomenal dam, Milly, for a buck kid and she had triplet does! We couldn’t resist adding a Milly daughter to the herd. Manet is a beautiful, correct doe but being smaller in stature had a difficult time competing with some of her larger herdmates in the show ring. She more than makes up for her stature with her persistance in the parlor. We finally convinced her to dry off at 605 days fresh with a total of a little over 4400 pounds for her extended lactation. These numbers are particularly impressive when you note that the first year and half of that lactation were on primarily first cutting grass hay. We retained one of her 2020 daughters sired by *B Roeburn’s KVZ Soren.

3-05 VEVV 88

2023 4 year old EEEV 90, excellent in head, front legs, back and rump and on an extended lactation!

Anais has a rear udder that makes you say WOW and the will to milk that goes with it. Despite the move, Anais continued to produce well into late lactation. She has a beautifully arched rear udder and near perfect teat placement. I had the opportunity to meet Anais as a dry yearling where I believe I exclaimed “WOW” out loud. Anais is a lovely two year old who I believe will continue to look even better as she grows older - my favorite kind of doe! Maybe it’s a good sign that she shares a birthday with my very first french alpine doe.

Anais has proven herself in 2022. She is one of my favorite does in the barn. Her lovely dairy strength, correct feet and legs and will to milk despite heat and crazy schedules quickly moves her to the top of the list. Her 2022 daughter sired by Cato is my favorite kid in the group- while she hasn’t been shown due to registration delays.

2023 was “Annie”’s year to shine. On an extended lactation she earned an unrestricted leg going GCH, but also went RCH and was 3x1 of 3x shown. Annie is another doe that is tall, elegant and wide across her back. With her solid general appearance and her will to milk on an extended lactation we hope to retain a herd sire from Annie.

Bellhurst Quinn

Purebred Alpine

ADGA Genetics Link

DOB: 3/19/18

2023 Quinn was nearly dry at appraisal due to mastitis but still scored VEEA 83 with a 38 in rump width - Widest of the does scored that day. She was also excellent in back and rump.

Quinn has been a standout from the beginning. A doe who always has excelled in general appearance she garnered comments about her incredibly wide rump from the time she was a kid and has consistently placed in the top of her class in the show ring. She finally earned her restricted leg as a dry yearling in 2019 after earning several reserve champion rosettes against stiff Alpine competition. Her first freshening mammary system this spring did not disappoint with tremendous strength of attachment and lovely globular shape. She retained balance with strength of bone and spring of rib and managed to earn 3 reserve champion wins (against a permanent champion doe) at her first ever milking show. She went on to place second to the eventual champion in a large class of 2 year olds at the only other show she made it to this spring.

After a series of unfortunate events Quinn finally settled and carried a pregnancy to term and kidded nearly two weeks overdue with twin bucks sired by Kara-Kahl Andreas. We retained one as our junior herdsire and sent the other to work in CNY. Unfortunately Quinn got mastitis, was unable to be shown and dried off early. She appears to be bred again for 2024 to Steig and we are hopeful for does.

Show wins:

2018 (kid) - RCH Jr Alpine Allegany County Fair

2019 (dry yearling) - 2x RCH Jr Alpine Allegany County Fair, NYSDGBA, 1xCH Jr Alpine Wayne County Fair

2023 3 year old VEEG86, excellent in head, shoulder assembly, back and rump

Cellie was purchased in the fall of 2020 with Acacia to grow the milking herd for the creamery. We were so excited to bring Cellie home after seeing her extraordinary young dam, Celestial Star, fresh in the Roeburn herd. Cellie was not shown as a junior doe but has been consistently in the top 3 of her class as a 2 year old, even in a large competitive division. We are thrilled with Cellie’s FF mammary system capacity and are impressed with her stunning, wide, square rump. We also love her balanced head. She’s going to be the doe to watch.

Roeburn’s M Brutus Portia

Purebred French Alpine

DOB: 2/28/20

3-05 VEVG86 excellent in rear legs, rump, V in back and front legs

ADGA Genetics

Owning Portia is a dream come true - my very own daughter of ++*B Roeburn’s Gatwick Brutus. Portia is absolutely incredible in her frame, tremendous stature and length. She is wide and open in her ribbing but very adequate strength of bone. Portia continues to tower over the other does in the barn. We are particularly impressed by Portia’s wide, arched rear udder and her persistence into the end of lactation.

Roeburn’s Corelli Armani

Purebred Alpine

DOB: 4/4/20

ADGA Genetics

Armani is a stunning, upstanding alert young doe that we are excited to have in the barn. She is a full sister to Anais and we loved Anais so much we decided that one more couldn’t hurt. Armani is very smoothly blended throughout and a very balanced young doe.

Roeburn’s Baron’s Lola

Roeburn’s Baron’s Lola

DOB: 3/14/22

ADGA Genetics

Lola is a special doe kid and has been a standout since birth. There is nothing I would change about this little doe. She made me so proud when she placed 3rd intermediate kid at the National Show. She won her restricted leg in the second ring at our first show out at just 3 months old. Her dam Layla scored 91 this year as a four year old and has had an outstanding first show season earning two legs and a BIS win and we know that Lola has a bright future. Lola finished the 2022 season with another junior champion win in a competitive division at the Erie County Fair. She only showed once at an ADGA show in 2023. We cannot wait to see her fresh.

Roeburn’s Cato Amaranthus

Roeburn’s Cato Amaranthus

DOB: 3/27/22

ADGA Genetics

Amaranthus was a massive triplet (and the smallest of the three) born from Anais this spring. Like her brothers is impressively deep bodied with a lovely full rib shape. She is an attractive kid with correct general appearance. We are absolutely love with her dam Anais - she is just such a functional, productive dairy goat.

Due to a paperwork snag at ADGA Amara didn’t get shown until 2023 as a dry yearling where she was 1x Reserve Junior Champion. We are excited to see a second Cato daughter fresh in our herd. Amara has the length and width we admire about her dam Anais and we are hopeful she will have the same lovely rear udder and will to milk. Amara is extremely sound in her general appearance particularly her rear leg angulation and strength of pasterns just like her dam.

Roeburn’s Andreas Merlot

Roeburn’s Andreas Merlot

DOB: 2/5/22

ADGA Genetics

I feel like Merlot has been our best kept secret. Merlot is the triplet sister to Moet, our 2022 Spotlight doe. With a limited show string, Merlot stayed home while Moet strutted her stuff in 2022 and we barely showed juniors in 2023. With Millie retired, Merlot and Moet will be the last Millie daughers to freshen and we cannot wait to see this Millie x Andreas come to fruition. Merlot is a beautiful cou blanc (and mostly white, like my first alpine). You can learn more about this cross by visiting Moet’s spotlight sale page.

Roeburn’s Sedric Mary Cassatt

Purebred Alpine

DOB: 2/26/21

2-06 GGGG81

ADGA Genetics

Cassie is a stunning dry yearling we are thrilled to add to the herd. She is a look-a-like to her maternal aunt Amalie (6-05 92EEEE). She appears to have the same large stature and beautiful head. Her AI sire ++*B Sunshine Seign Sedric has very positive PTAs (Nov 2022 PTA21: 163 PTA12: 177). We have been focusing on using data from the ADGA performance programs to drive some of our breeding decisions and we love the values that Sedric brought to this cross. Cassie will hit the show ring as a first freshening two year old.

Roeburn’s Cato Tarragon

Purebred Alpine

DOB: 3/23/21

ADGA Genetics *please note Tarragon’s full sisters pedigree is linked because Tarragon is not yet registered.

Tarragon is a maternal sister to Anais and we are extremely disappointed that ADGA is having trouble registering her, which prevented her from being shown or appraised. We love Tarragon’s long, level back and rump and smoothness of blending. She freshened with lovely udder texture and rear udder height. Hopefully the tech issue gets resolved and we can show Tarragon off (and register her daughters).

Vanilla

Bellhurst Vanilla (name pending)

DOB: 2023

Not yet registered

Vanilla is a daughter of Tarragon (who cannot be registered yet due to NG issues) and Andreas. We love her dairy strength and alert, uphill stature. In an effort to see more fresh Andreas daughters we decided to freshen her as a milking yearling. We are hopeful her dam gets registered soon so that we will be able to show her.

High-Tax-Acres Felicity 2*M

French Alpine

ADGA Genetics Link

DOB: 3/19/16

Appraisal: 2-02 FS 88 EEVV

5-06 VEVV 88

Felicity will steal your heart if you let her. This quirky doe has unique facial markings that only add to her charm. Born an 11 pound doe kid from her 11 year old dam she’s always been a little larger than life. We loved her dam Udell for her incredible longevity and strength of pasterns and mammary system well into old age (unfortunately Udell was never appraised). Felicity’s strength is in her general appearance and dairy strength (as noted by her “E” in those appraisal categories). After a near fatal freshening in 2020, she freshened normally in 2021 and had a strong show season winning her class repeatedly and finally getting a solid lactation when the herd was on regular milk testing to earn her star.

Show wins:

2017 (dry yearling): RJCH Alpine NYSDGBA

2019 (milking 3 yo): 2xGCH, 1xBOB Alpine Spring Fling Dairy Goat Show, WRDGA (2 unrestricted legs)
